Alzheimer’s Disease is a type of dementia wherein a person experiences short-term memory loss and eventually becomes incapable of performing activities of daily living. Although series of studies have already been done to get to the main cause of this problem, up to the present, the etiology of the disease remains unknown. Despite this fact though, prevention of this problem has already been deciphered and well stipulated.
To avoid the occurrence of Alzheimer’s Disease, the person must keep a balance between social activities and physical exercises. This is true and should be done not only by the elderly people but by people as early as 30 years of age. Unfortunately, unlike before, when this only just occurs to old people, recent data gathered has shown that some young people are already diagnosed with AD.
Let’s talk about social activities. An individual should never stop socializing with the people around, may it be at work or in the community. This is most especially advised though to people who recently retired from work. When one stops working, the person’s social circle also becomes smaller. This leads to fewer people to talk to and hang out with. And if the person does not put effort in reaching out to other people around, this can lead to loneliness and social isolation. The problem with social isolation is that the individual will no longer have an avenue to express oneself with leading to lesser brain activity. When we interact with other people, our brain works therefore it keeps the engine going and the gas flowing. With this, the occurrence of mental deterioration can be prolonged so as the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease. It must also be remembered that, the effort should not be on the person concerned alone but this should also go with the family being a crucial player and contributor in any person’s well-being.
Physical exercises on the other hand also serve a great contribution to a person’s wellness. When we exercise we do not only work our muscles out but we also remove toxins from our body. This is done through sweating and fecal elimination- the very effect when one does bodily exercises. In addition, when we do physical activities, our mind participates in the action. The mind at the same time is given an opportunity to work above regular level. With this, mental juices will keep on flowing thus will prevent mental stagnation. Mental stagnation is one of the major reasons looked into among elderly peopled that is why a lot of them end up in developing Alzheimer’s disease.
The thing with AD is that, this is never a simple case that can only be cured by simple medicines. The disease is very detrimental to a person that it does not only cause physical problems but social dilemmas as well. And since AD has no known cause, therefore is its specific medication or treatment as well. It is then highly important that the above mentioned shall be given consideration to promote an active and healthy aging.
